Decisions: Enjoy or regret it.

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

Not too long ago, i had to make a decision on 2 different events that will happen on the same day. One was a appreciation dinner by my newly-wed members and the other was to attend a friend’s wedding dinner. Here are some rough conclusions on how it went.

Decision A - Appreciation Dinner

My 2 newly wed members invited every member(including myself) that helped out during their wedding at their place for a small thanksgiving dinner. What a nice gesture and i really feel appreciated by them. Anyway, food that was catered that day was delicious & also the fellowship was great, compromising of saboeing members who turned up late for the dinner. Quite entertaining to see people being saboed wearing clown wigs & dancing to the tune of bogey bogey. So basically everything was great because of great company, great food and great entertainment.

Decision B - Wedding Dinner

A friend that i have not seen for a while invited me for her wedding dinner. Ironically, i wasnt invited for the matrimony but just the dinner. When i was there, the hotel car park was full and i had to park over the opposite hotel instead. While crossing over there, i had to jump across this rather sizable drain in my boots. (Thank God i didn’t fall into the drain) When i reached there, i realised that my friend and i are placed under ‘Dad’s collegues’ which means that i have to sit and eat my dinner with a bunch of ah peks for the rest of the night. So sian…. My whole table looked like a typical table setting in Geylang when old men sat with young gals. So basically, everything turned out bad as i didn’t eat much, gave a sizeable amount in the ang pow & ended up paying $9 for car park fees.

Guess which decision did i made??? Comment below.

Cost-saving testimonies!!

Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006

BF period has finally started & it is always encouraging to hear wonderful testimonies of how people are blessed everytime they give sacrificially to God. I may not received my hundred fold blessings yet but i just want to share 3 incidents of how God blessed me by ’saving’ me financially.

1st Incident

This happened when i was going for a make-up cgm on a friday night. Apparently, i was there early & my other members were not cos they were alittle lost finding the place. So i went up to the place first because the owner of the house was my friend & i thought of catching up with her. 20 mins later, my members were still lost & i failed to give them the right directions. 10 mins later, i received another phone call from my member, but this time, not for directions but…. "SUmmon lady is here!!! Hurry come down!!!" So i ran down, sprint towards my car (Mind you.. i have not run so fast for such a long time) just in time before the summon lady fines me & earns herself $5 as commission. My member is so generous, she already prepared a coupon for me so that i can just conveniently slipped unto the dashboard. (Thanks Louisa) I felt that the whole incident was God setting all of us up for a blessing. He caused my members to be lost, then for them to find the right place at the right time, saving us a $30 fine. My friend told me that her place was constantly filled with authorities ready to fine people who don’t put coupons but thank God for His setup.

2nd Incident

I was out with my good friend on a friday night & i accompanied her to the supermarket as she needed some groceries. Funny to be grocery shopping at 11 plus. Second funny thing is while we are at the maggi noodles section, she spend an awful amount of time in just picking a brand of noodles. After all the shopping, i drove her back home to unload her groceries. ARGH!!! I screamed as though i saw a ghost… However it was just….

2 SUMMON MALAY LADIES!!!!

Mind you… it was already 12.20am!! Midnight!! Yet, summon people are still summoning people while clueless drivers are already asleep. I never knew that these people are SO on the ball.. Nevertheless, i felt that it was God setting me up once again. If my friend had not decide to go to the supermarket or spend that huge amount of time at the noodles section, i would have been fined. Indeed God’s timing is always the perfect timing.

3rd Incident

My friend and i decided to go for Teochew porridge after looking at this book filled with good recommendations of good food. Initially, our hopes were not up as we saw the place with most stalls already closed then light came out of the darkness! Suddenly large group of people were there eating from the stall we were going for. We order like this huge fish, and i mean huge (Look at pic)

Image194

& 5 other dishes for a whopping cost of only $15.60!! Unbelievable!! Going into a restaurant with a big fish like that may cost over $30 but 2 bowls of porridge, 5 dishes & a huge plate of fish that only cost $15.60 is quite a deal i must say. The food is so good and tasty, i still can’t believe it is so cheap! Then we order barley water(Which it tastes so great, like homemade) costing only $0.50. 50 cents!!! thats like school canteen kind of prices!! Even Teh costs 70 cents but for barley 50cents?? i was discussing with my friend whether God made those people crazy by offering us such low cost prices. However, i knew in my heart that it was an act of God. Ok, you may be thinking, these blessings are not having tens of thousands of dollars but to me, the feeling of being blessed is still the same. What a great God i serve! Praise God!

Defining Love

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

One day, i asked my mum this question.

Me:  "Mum, do you ever get tired to take care of us?"

Replying in an instant.

Mum: "NO! i will never get tired of taking care of all of you"

Me: "But, it has been 20 over years. Not sian meh?"

Mum: "No because this is my duty"

Lovezh

What really amazes me is my mum’s love towards my family. From her reply towards me, i could tell that loving us is the reason for her existence & gives her tremedous satisfaction & happiness when she does whatever she can just to see us happy.

Sad to say, i always tell my mum that i can never be able to love as much as she does for the family. It really really takes alot of effort & energy to continue to do something for someone over and over again with no promises of having anything in return. Don’t know is it me or it happens for everyone, i am someone who likes to be rewarded when i do something right. It gives me motivation to do better next time. Pastor always tell us that love is the willingness to sacrifice. ‘SACRIFICE’ what a word. Sacrifice is defined as scapegoat or doing selfless good deeds. (@_@) One word: Jesus

Worst of all, God encourages us to love our enemies as we love ourselves. Seriously not easy i must say. i can never comprehend why but i guess there is no harm in trying but definately takes a big heart to achieve it.

Guess all i am trying to say is love doesn’t require anything in return. Imagine Jesus dying on the cross for us and expect everyone to return him back with the same measure of love. (@_@) The motivation of love is still utimately love and if you get any in return, it is a bonus if not, it is ok. Go on and practise love.

Eat-Right-Tastefully

Monday, November 13th, 2006

I was watching this Taiwanese Health program on cable yesterday (Channel 54 Monday 7pm onwards) & i was intrigued by these 3 lady hosts whom btw are slighty on the plump side. The program is basically teaching people how to eat more healthy & at the same time, seeing the transformation of the 3 hosts as they attempt to lose weight whilst following the health advices given by a health expert(apparently)

As a female counterpart, i wonder why species like us often attempt or try to lose weight even when are already slim in the 1st place. I wonder who started this idea of dieting in the first place. In some cultures such as the indian one, women that are on the bigger side is often interpreted as beauty, in fact, the bigger she is, the more attractive she is to men. (@_@)

So i continued watching the health program, they were introducing something called the "Han Tian" which apparently looks like bird’s nest or dried-up mucus. (Eek) Apparently, by eating this can help reduce constipation, help you lose weight & many other helpful health factors. Very popular in Japan btw. However, as i see the 3 hosts attempt to mix the ‘Han Tian’ into their drinks & food, i can see their excitement turning into regret as i could tell from their faces, it ain’t tasty treats. I could literally see them curl in their tummy or see them running out of the studio & throwing everything out during the commercial break.

I don’t quite understand how gals can put thru those horrible slim-fast diets when they can’t really eat & even when they do eat, they eat like rabbits chewing on carrots.

As many of you know, i am actually quite a health conscious person. When people are reading fashion or car magazines at the bookstore, i will be at the health section reading the what-have-you-not. (Thats right!)  My policy is not about dieting or not eating at all but to choose wisely on what you swallow daily for meals. I try not to eat too much deep fried food but i choose more soup based stuff. I also try to drink tons of water, eat fruits, eat less sugar & no snacking. Don’t know why, when women are stressed, they eat. The more stressed they are, the more they eat. It can happen to guys too.

Think all i want to say is, it is important to keep our bodies in good health right now so that we don’t have to suffer in the long term when we get older & spend tons of money in hospitals. Life can be tasteful treats & not weird in taste. Go try it.

Is that a question/compliment/insult?? (Part 2)

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

It all happened when I was calling up this supplier, wanting to order some stuff for my father & little did i expect this to happen.

Supplier: "Hello, XXXX company"

ME: "Yes, i would like to speak to Sandy please"

Supplier: "Oh!! Are you Sandy’s daugher??" (Changing her tone in the way when one would talk to a kid)

ME: "No! I just want to make some orders for my company"

Supplier: (LAughs) Sorry Sorry…

(*_*)     (-_-)       (*_*)      (-_-)      (*_*)

I don’t think i misunderstood, but the lady really thought i was Sandy’s YOUNG daughter esp when she tried to change her tone of voice to those that sounded cute/sweet. Honest to God, i didn’t even try to sound cute over the phone or change my tone of voice. For those who know me, my voice is rather low-pitched, how did i sound like someone’s younger daughter?? Mystery.

The conclusion of my own question: "Is that a question/compliment/insult (PArt 2)"

Answer: Insult. (What are the chances of writing this topic again after what happened to the chwee kuey incident just 5 days ago??)

Subaru WRX Challenge

Monday, November 6th, 2006

For those of you who attempted or tried to leave behind a comment on my blog, i just want to say that i am very grateful for your support. Thank you very much for trying but if really cannot, don’t force yourself or else you might just end up breaking your computer apart. For those of you who successfully left behind a comment, my respect for you has gone up a notch cos you really made tons and tons of effort even when friendster screwed you up many times. You should be proud of yourself… I am.

Meanwhile, the talk of the town is at Ngee Ann City,

Sign_2  Car_1

As i am typing this, there are 2 guys left in the challenge. Believe me, it has been 3 days since these guys have gotten any sleep or rest.

Subaru_wrx_challange The game is basically simple. Just place your hands on the car & the last person still standing with hands on the car gets the car.

Funny how some will do anything just to get a free car. These 2 guys have already participated before in previous years but guess quitting is not in their dictionary.

I wonder what goes behind the motivation for these 2 guys for them to sacrifice their time & energy to win the car. Right.. a $90,000 car prize. Oh well, just to make things fun, lets have a top 10 list on what these guys are thinking while outlasting each other in this competition.

TOP 10 THOUGHTS ON THE LAST 2 MEN ON THE SUBARU WRX CHALLENGE:-

10. "Wow…I can actually sleep standing…"

9. "I miss my bed & boaster"

8. "When will he quit??"

7. "Should i give up & take the $7000 goodie bag instead?? NO!! Should i give up & go back & sleep?? NO!! SHould i…."

6. "Finally i am getting attention from people"

5. "Whats that smell??"

4. *Blank

3. "Lalalalla…lalalalala"

2. "Why am i here? Oh…right"

1. "Must win car… must win car… must win car…must win car… must win car…must win car… must win car… must win car… must win car… must win car…must win car… must win car… must win car… must win car…must win car… must win car… must win car… must win car…must win car… must win car… must win car… must win car…must win car… must win car… must win car… must win car!!"

Is that a question/compliment/insult??

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

I was buying Chwee Kuey for MY breakfast this morning & i requested for less ‘Cai Por‘ & no chili(Being the health conscious person that i am & also it helps to reduce the oil intake) from the stall owner. Little did i expect this question:-

"Are you buying this(Chwee Kuey) for an elderly?"

(*_*)    (-_-)     (*_*)     (-_-)     (*_*)

Frankly speaking, i was stunned for the moment. I was wondering if that was a genuine question/compliment/insult? My mum thinks that they are just being kay poh, i thought i was helping them save ‘Cai Por’ for others who may want more. I guess the campaign of encouraging customers to order more vege & less oil for our food has definately failed to bring across to this ‘Chwee Kuey’ store owner.

The conclusion of my own question "Is that a question/compliment/insult?"

Answer: Insult (Or else it won’t bother me as much as to writing this blog)

Kitty ways

Thursday, November 2nd, 2006

I was walking back to the car after purchasing my lunch, then i came across this cat, who was sitting outside this pet store, looking very obediently into the store. Let me call this cat, Kitty. Kitty doesn’t look stray, it seemed to be a pet, belonging to an owner. Quite good-looking kitty is. (Actually Kitty should feel complimented cos i feel nothing about cats) So i took this photo.

Image190_2

So just to make this fun, i came up with a top 10 list on ….

TOP 10 THINGS ON WHAT KITTY IS REALLY DOING:-

10. Seeing whether who will win at the staring game, Kitty or dog poster on the door?

9. Kitty heard from other stray cats that the pet store gives out free kitty treats at 1230pm daily.

8. Receiving punishment because of naughty behaviour.

7. Performing a street act of posing like a statue. (Kindly donate kitty treats if you happen to see it)

6. Peeping.

5. Wants a job at the pet store but refusing to go away even after many rejections.

4. Using the glass door as a mirror.

3. Works as the store’s security personnel, whoever that goes out of the store without making payments will be scratched personally by Kitty.

2. Wondering if the store sells kitty stuff cos apparently the whole store seems to be filled with doggie posters & stuff.

1. Nothing really. Thats what Cats do.

My real real age is….

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

Recently, my sis emailed me this interesting website that tells us of our real age of our body based on our current lifestyle. After a grueling series of questions, i was given this result…

Real_age_results_1

Not that bad eh??? I am actually my own age… well… nearly. I wonder what is that 0.1 thingy.. is it because of my lack of exercise or is it because i talk while i drive?? There are even ‘helpful’ advises such as buying a bigger car which apparently provides more protection against accidents than smaller cars. What accidents? i wonder. Probably from talking on the phone while driving. The other advice is to own a dog. WHAT? Own a dog??? I don’t like dogs or the responsibility to take care of it. (No offense to dog lovers) Apparently, the advantage of having one is because it increases our need for physical activity such as walking or playing with it. Forget it. I am sticking to Pilates.

For those of you who are interested to find out the ‘real’ you, you can go to this website & it will help you by giving u better advices on how to lead a healthy lifestyle. If not, you can continue with whatever you are doing now.
