Happy Halloween or some call it Happy Pooky Night!!

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Guess you didn’t know that Halloween is also called pooky night in

Ireland

. (I wasn’t aware too but ‘pooky’ sounds funnier than halloween) Anyhow, since when did people celebrate Halloween in

Singapore

? Funny that i see more shops (Compared to last year) selling halloween stuff such as costumes, pumpkins & fanciful buckets to collect candy. (Do that or use the buckets to make sand castles at the beach)

If you are a typical Singaporean like me, you would have thought that Halloween is all about dressing up in scary, wicked costumes, pumpkins having an evil face & smile on it or even just an excuse for kids to get free sweets. As i researched about Halloween, i realised that there is much more i didn’t know about this holiday that i don’t celebrate.

SOMETHINGS I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT HALLOWEEN:-

- Halloween originated from

Ireland

,

France

&

Britain

, not

America

. (OOOooo)

- Halloween is also called "All Hallows’ Day", "All Hallows’ Eve" or "Pooky Night!!"

- If you are "Sua Ku" like me, people don’t eat pumpkins, sweets or turkey for Halloween, they have candy apples using apples in sticky corn syrup, rolled in nuts.

ok, there is much more info but i am just too lazy to type them out. Opps… Happy Pooky Night All!!

What’s wrong with SG food?

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Yesterday night, i was out with my mum and sis to the shopping mall & ended up having a bad time because of the dinner we had. Everything we order turned out to be too sweet, too salty or too fatty. (Most importantly, all of it ain’t cheap!!) We were all disgusted & felt nauseous after the whole thing. Seriously speaking, i always felt that SG hawkers don’t put their heart into their cooking, cooking for the sake of taking our hard-earned money & making us eat horrible cooked that leave us disgusted & flabbergasted.

If you actually travel overseas, (doesn’t even have to be a high class restaurant), you can find nice good & delicious food being prepared by local hawkers. Just like the time when i went to Taiwan, just close your eyes & pick any store, all good! Even in Malaysia… people put more heart and soul into their food preparation. People don’t cook because they have to but because their passion & desire is to cook beautiful & make sure that other people are blessed by it as well. I hate to say the fact when our locals just throw stuff into the pot & show less interest in producing tasty food for us to eat.

Maybe the government can do something about this area too instead just asking people to choose healthy food??? Those of you in the food industry, pls oh pls, if you hate your job, quit it, don’t let people suffer under your hands of anger & bitterness. But if you think that you are going somewhere with food, make it a desire to blessed people with ur passion to serve delicious food. For me now, it is selective food stall patronizing.

The hazy air is driving me crazy

Monday, October 16th, 2006

I can’t believe the PSI reading is back… It is now showing daily on the left hand side of my TV screen. Also, mask on people’s faces. The last time i saw masks on people was during the SARs period.. Sigh.. That could only mean one thing, the haze is back. Drags…

I don’t know what is in the haze, maybe is little particles of irritation that travels into our body system, making us crazy with shortness of breath & feeling hot & sleepy all the time (Well, at least for me)

How i wished our nation would come up with technologies such as putting up a huge electric fan in the middle of the country, switched on 24/7, blowing the haze in 4 different directions instead of waiting for some natural wind to blow it all away or being enclosed with a big bubble over our whole nation (Just like an idea of a  snow globe) so that the haze will not affect our nation. But soon, my alarm clock rings and the reality hits me when i gazed out my window and see the haze.

Here i end with a creative poem on how i feel towards the haze.

CRAZY HAZE

Look! It is the haze

Hovering over our nation & over my face

How i wish it can go away

So that the kids can come out to play

Look! It is the haze

When will farmers in Indonesia stop & behave?

Be considerate & use bulldozer instead

So that i don’t have to read PSI reading on my TV again

Look! It is the haze

When can i see clear skies again

I pray that we can breathe pure fresh air soon

Before all of us will have to start wear mask out too

My 1-year relationship with Baby J

Sunday, October 8th, 2006

Just last weekend, i had the privilage to be part of a 1-year old baby’s birthday celebration. (Some of you may know who already) Time really passes by very fast, it was like yesterday when i was in the hospital visiting him for the first time. I had the opportunity to carry him also (Which nearly gave me a heart attack cos i am NOT familiar with any association with babies whatsoever) I remembered my hands were trembling as i carried him as he was so fragile & also due to the fact that i have fear dropping him (Till today, i still have that fear whenever i got the chance to carry him… sad)

Seriously, i am not a person who is very fond of babies, but this little guy changed me a bit. Just a bit.. Haha… Each day as i see him grow, he gets cutier & cutier each day. He now has more hair, can almost walk & two little teeth tucked nicely in the middle. People always tell me that ALL babies are cute. Sorry but I personally don’t think that ALL babies are cute. (Oppss…) He is not only cute but i believe he will turn into a handsome young man when he grows up. You will agree when you see the photos. Every time i see him, makes me forget even those times when he scratched my face, wake me up in the wee hours of the morning or even that time when he ‘accidently’ peed in my mum’s car… Thats right!!… why you little!!!…..

On his birthday, i had a blast shopping for his stuff at a party shop. Unfortunately, stuff there are rather pricey but i managed to get some affordable stuff such as a elmo balloon with his name on it & a star-shaped candle. (Though it was alittle embarassing for me to carry a balloon around the mall, you can’t imagining the no. of stares i got. I actually had to run to the car park)

Nevertheless, having a 1-year long relationship with a baby made me learn about somethings i never knew about babies, here are top 10 things i have learned so far…..

TOP 10 THINGS I HAVE LEARNED FROM MY 1-YEAR RELATIONSHIP WITH BABY J:-

10. Parents , be prepared to fork out to purchase air-conditioning as hot weather is a big turn-off for them.

9. They enjoy it when you attempt to make monkey faces just to make them laugh, what they are really thinking is "Ha…adults… not so bright afterall.."

8. They actually know what you are saying to them esp when you try to scold them but they pretend not to know what you are talking about.

7. It is easier to change his/her diaper than to get him/her to look at the camera & smile.

6. The reason why you always find things in their mouth is because they think that everything in this world is food & looks tasty enough to be eaten.

5. 3 T-words: Take-Taste-Throw

4. Be careful with the food that you feed the baby, chances are that you might either get a smile or a throw-out.

3. They have no sense of self control & direction esp in 2 areas, answering nature call & aiming before he/she decides to drip his/her saliva on you.

2. You can spend the whole day with him/her but he/she ends up forgetting about you the next day.

1. He/she has no idea he/she has turned one & thoughts that the birthday celebration is for someone else. Wasted…

Making mistakes to later be mistaken

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

Ok, let me answer my own question. Human beings make mistakes because we are all imperfect people living in imperfect world with imperfect situations. Although one wishes to be perfect in everything but yet, there are many times when we fall below our expectations & hopes and then crumbles into a world of disappointments & sadness.

I can be sure to say that everyone is this world will make at least 10 mistakes in their life. I already exceeded my mark of 10 long time ago and sometimes, i really hate myself for making mistakes esp at work. Makes me feel like a failure at times esp to my dad cos i think i saboed him many times ever since i worked for him. Good thing is each time i made mistakes, my parents are forgiving enough and often save my butt out of the many troubles which i did. I guess before i even become a christian, i learned forgiveness thru my parents cos they are the most forgiving people that i know of esp when i see so many people trying to screw them time and time again.

However, in the real world, not many are like my parents. Once you make a mistake, you will be made to shelved, thrown aside, condemned, never to be called again, banished from the earth. Instead of helping someone to grow from his/her mistake, we dig a bigger hole for the person so that the chances of climbing out of the hole is harder and much more slippery. I believe in forgiveness because Bible says that to be forgiven, we must first learn to forgive. Sadly, forgiveness is hard to find in the hearts of people even amongst Christians. I gag at the thought & wished that people can focus on people development rather than be in the business of condemnation. Come mon, lets be people that are big hearted to accept those who makes mistakes & offer them chances again & again. Let’s make this world a better place to live by learning to be forgiving.
