Being prepared for the big M

Monday, July 24th, 2006

One of the most touching sight in this world(i feel) is to see an old couple walking together, still holding hands. Sad enough, there ain’t many who are doing that enough. Though Pst mentioned that the divorce rate is getting higher as decades go by but i still believe that there is a handful out there who have successful marriages.

Seriously, i don’t believe in fairy tale marriages n like what Pst said, we all fall out of love eventually. Marriage takes hard work(Many don’t know that) and it involves 2 people being in partnership to keep on working on it. God starts the fire but we keep the fire burning… How true it is in every aspect of our life, God always starts off a idea or dream in us but we keep the dream alive but working and working hard towards it.

So to those of u who missed out on last week’s service, here is some piece of advise…

TOP 10 PREPARATIONS BEFORE YOU GET YOURSELF INTO MARRIAGE:-

10. Be prepared to save up tons n loads of money cos no more running back to ur mummy/daddy for help. You are now on ur own. Ouch.

9. Be prepared to remove any emotional attachment to ur parents. (For some of you, no problem for u whatsoever)

8. Open your eyes to see whether this is the right person u want to spend ur rest of ur life with… remember, there is no turning back after that.

7. Be prepared to enlarge ur heart even larger to love n to contain the unpredictable that it going to happen in the future…

6. Repeat after me, "1 man, 1 woman……… 1 man, 1 woman….."

5. It is actually a 3-in-1 package containing your spouse & in-laws.

4. Remember, it aint a fairy tale…

3. It is about committment, committment and more committment.

2. Say goodbye to good friends esp platonic ones. Your world now is only surrounded by ur spouse… parents n friends not included.

1. Stop acting like a kid. grow up & be serious. It ain’t a game u know..

I am 8 years old!

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

Yesterday night, as i was about to go to sleep, it suddenly dawn upon me that it was the 19th of July!! It is my spiritual birthday, the day i become the follower of Christ. Time really passed by fast, i turned 8 yesterday. Totally amazing. I have never been so committed to anything except following God, most of the time, i just give up.

As i looked back, what a tremedous time i had in church! Moving from Hollywood to Jurong to expo now.. it was an exciting time. We were all younger then, queuing under the hot sun just to get good seats for service. Also the baby population not as much compared to now but somethings never change esp our fervency for God and the ability to book seats.. guess somethings just passed down from generations to generations.

As said, here are some memories i had as i walked with God for the past 8 years…

TOP 10 MOST MEMORABLE THINGS ENCOUNTERED BEING 8 YEARS AS A CHRISTIAN:-

10. If you actually compared the photo of me now and the photo of me then, i actually look younger compared to when i was 18. (Don’t know why, we are all trying to act old last time)

9. Before we had any baptism pool, water baptism was held at the beach at East Coast Park.. Nasty sea water.. it was really like in Biblical times when John baptised people in the Jordan River.. nasty

8. We had alot more actions(Such as hand gestures) singing praise than it is now..

7. Early years of FOP with performances of dancers dancing with tambourines n banners… No kidding…

6. Year-end countdown & appreciation in Hollywood. We really let our hairs down n had a good time, throwing confetti everywhere… what a mess after the whole thing.. But amazing!

5. Going to 2-years of bible school and seeing my school mates today doing great things for God in their country.

4. During CGMs, we closed the lights & going down on our kneels having long sessions during worship.

3. Squeezing together all the time cos there is always not enough room cos we keep getting more people into the church.

2. How shocked i was when i attended my 1st service. I remembered being so shocked that i couldn’t close my mouth and sit down even after the whole praise n worship has ended.

1. Many many countless times being touched by God that till now, i cannot imagine myself leaving God because i know that He is real.

Actually alot of other memorable stuff that are not mentioned here so comment below if u have something memorable to share…

Let go Let God

Plans. Something that people are obsessed in doing or maybe to some that doesn’t like to plan. I say that i am somewhere in-between. Being the C person that i am, i like to plan my time & my future cos i think it saves time and gives me more production of my time. If our plans go as planned, good!! But, if they don’t(which is pretty often), are you able to be open to accept changes.

God likes that we make plans for our lives but He likes that we go through Him first, check everything… if He is happy, then everything will work according to His plan, just like our teacher/parent checking thru our homework. Like that the cg msg was saying, people get disappointed when things don’t go accordinly to plan. Many a times, i plan for something even 1 month before the actualy day, but suddenly, a bomb drops from the sky, blast ur plans and then you have to deal with the fact of the change of plans.

I am the type of person who have expectations in everything that i do. If things don’t go according to plan… i would sometimes be so disappointed to the point that i become grouchy. (Guess you won’t want to see that side of me) However, experience tells me not to fight with God. Sometimes, the more we argue or resist God, the more unhappy we are and still don’t get wat we want. Want to hear the solution??

LET IT GO!!!

So don’t try to hold on to something that is not of God or not approved by Him. Just let go and trust that He has something else better for you. Experience has taught me to just let go and be free. If it happens, it happens. I am not saying that you should not plan for your life. What i am saying is plan but if God comes and intervene, be open for change, BE FREE! Yeah… there are times when i struggle but when i make a choice to let go, suddenly rainbows appears, my heart is no longer tight, i can breathe better, everything else will seem beautiful …(u get the point) So if there is something u need to let go today… just do it!

A story between 2 neighbours

Tuesday, July 4th, 2006

A funny story i heard….

It started first from the men, a causal exchange of words & a gift of home-grown melons. The husband brought the melons to the wife to cook it. The wife cooked half of the melon & didn’t know what to do with the other melons given to her after that. It wasn’t just once but each time the melon was grown and fully riped, the wife would receive melons from the friendly woman next door. The wife gradually grew sick of melons esp having to receive them from her neighbours then resorted to pass it on to others to relatives, indian workers & even aunties & uncles who was just a sweeper outside her place. "Why then do u still accept those melons?? " her children asked.. "Is not nice to reject gifts from people…" She said dejectedly. She thought her hiding and pretending to deaf helped but it only lead to plastic bags of melons being hung over her fence. Think her neighbours were sick of melons as much as she does, look at the way that they give melons… u know that they hate them.

Soon light came into the darkness, the neighbour’s melon died & can no longer can produce anymore. It was as if God knew & did something to take the thorn out of the women’s flesh. The wife was so happy, jumped up and down.. cos her burden of distribution of unwanted melons & the fear of rejecting them have been lifted up. However, her joy was short-lived when instead of melons, pumpkin and wintermelons were being replaced. Tears of joy became tears of sadness. So the distribution of home-grown vegetables continued over a year afterwhich the wife & her whole family moved away. So this family joke was established and will be told for the next few decades to remind us of this moral…

What a burden to be kind.

Adopted from the true story of the Tok family.
